TESTIMONIALS

“I spent almost a year at AMP as an education intern. I was able to help the teaching artists to present both virtual and in-person programs to youth all across the country. It was truly an irreplaceable experience, as I got to learn the ins and outs of how children’s programming runs and the evolving process of balancing fun with learning something new! I was given the chance to try new tasks and I felt completely supported in every way! The team provided a space for me to exercise my strengths but also expand my knowledge. I will always be grateful for my time at AMP and will be using skills I learned there throughout my professional life.”
–Izzy Jacobs, education intern, 2020–21

“I started off as a Digital Story Work intern, and after that I had the opportunity to do an education/video internship throughout my senior year of high school. And that in itself is amazing because I’ve been looking for internships in the video field, and I couldn’t find any because they are usually geared towards college students, so AMP really gave me that opportunity to figure out the field I want to go into at the time I needed to. I made multiple mistakes throughout my internship, and the staff has been so insightful in teaching me about those mistakes—and how they are okay to make and how to work from that. I’ve changed as a worker because of my time here, and it all started from looking at the mural.”
–Makaela Lesniewski, Digital Story Work and education intern, 2019–20

“I learned that teamwork is important and necessary while trying to learn new things. While doing the internship, each of us work together, always supporting and trying to incorporate every idea to the final product. I was able to speak up, share my ideas, and contribute with many of the shots and interview questions. It was wonderful to work with group of people who are willing to help each other. I truly think that trying new things give you more skills and experience. AMP has been a family—we are not always interns and directors, we are friends trying to collaborate. I have gained friends, experience, and motivation.”
–Johanna Idrovo-Sarmiento, Digital Story Work intern, 2017

Makaela Lesniewski has experienced the best of working at AMP this year as our video intern; starting with her summer 2020 Digital Story Work internship and progressing into a service learning experience for her senior year that included filming two high profile events and several teaching artist videos.
