Summer Program Assistant

Overview
The AMP Summer Program Assistant interacts with participants ages 7-17 along with AMP staff, teaching artists, and other high school/college interns in support of a variety of summer enrichment arts and nature-based programs. The assistant guides and ensures the safety of all participants as they engage in activities. They contribute to the activity planning process and receive special training to fully support and encourage  participants. They help to create a learning environment and culture of belonging that supports AMP’s goals of fostering individual creativity, collaborative work and growth. 

Company Introduction:
Founded in 2001, AMP is a nonprofit organization with an unusual initiative in education. At its center is the creation of the largest indoor collaborative artwork in the world—a mural 120 feet long, five stories high, and up to 10 feet deep. A tribute to American workers and the contributions they have made to the country, the mural has the power to challenge and inspire viewers to consider what they can bring to American culture through the work they do. 

Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Assist teaching artists with program set up.

  • Greet program participants and help take attendance.

  • Help lead age appropriate games, with an emphasis on both indoor and outdoor safety.

  • Supervise snack and lunch time, paying close attention to food allergies and clean up.

  • Support teaching artists’ needs and help motivate participants during project work.

  • Help facilitate that all participants clean up after themselves.

  • Ensure parents/guardians sign out participants at pick up.

  • Provide program feedback to the Education Director.

Assistant Requirements:

  • Experience working with children is required.

  • High level of responsibility and accountability.

  • Attentive, engaging personality.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

  • First aid, CPR, and additional training will be provided.

  • Physical ability to participate in activities; run, climb, lift objects, and support the weight of participants.

  • Ability to pass a background check, a physical, and proof of immunizations.
