School Field Trips

A field trip to AMP immerses students in art, the wide range of work performed in our communities, and hands-on individual and collaborative projects to integrate the learning.

Art: See the one-of-a-kind, massive three-dimensional artwork—120 feet long and five stories high

Make: Imagine your contribution to the world and create a project inspired by the mural

People: Learn about the mural’s tribute to American workers—see and hear their inspiring stories

Field trips provide an overview of Founder and Artistic Director Ellen Griesedieck’s inspiration for the mural—the largest indoor collaborative artwork in the world, involving more than 15,000 people across the country. Students will learn about the mural’s tribute to American workers, the people depicted in the mural and their stories, and why the subjects were chosen.

Students will create an individual project that focuses on creative idea generation and the impact of those ideas on their future, their community, and the world around them, as well a collaborative “big idea” group project focused on aspects of the mural or inspired by the mural’s tribute to work. Projects are designed to incorporate topics of interest for each school/group and include core artistic skills: collaboration, creativity, design thinking, and problem solving. Project topics incorporate curriculum standards across multiple subject areas.

AMP merchandise, including stickers, hats, and one-of-a-kind hand-painted t-shirts and hoodies, will be available for purchase: americanmuralproject.org/store.
