The American Mural Project recently received grants from the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, the Maximilian E. and Marion O. Hoffman Foundation, and the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development/Office of the Arts, for education and renovations at the project in Winsted. Read the full article here.

For 20 years, artist Ellen Griesedieck has been creating an enormous mural that shows American workers doing their jobs, from farming and firefighting to fishing and fixing cars. Along the way, she’s had lots of help from kids.

Senator Chris Murphy hosted an arts roundtable at AMP on Friday! Along with state representatives and arts leaders from around Connecticut, he discussed the arts as an economic driver.
Murphy said “I have been a believer from the very beginning that AMP is not only a good thing for Winsted, but it is transformational for everyone who gets to come here. I am a believer in art and the initiative of art changing people’s lives.”

American Mural Project founder Ellen Griesedieck joked in the project’s latest newsletter that she has been so busy she doesn’t know where the summer has gone. “I have worn my bathing suit under my work clothes every day since June and have been in the water only once,” she said. One of seven arts professionals being honored, Griesedieck will receive the award at the CAEA annual awards dinner, April 28 at the Country Club of Farmington, where she will be recognized for her outstanding achievement and contributions to the field of art education. The first panel of the American Mural Project is up. Early Thursday afternoon, project founder Ellen Griesedieck and five helpers carried the roughly 10-foot-tall aluminum honeycomb panel from one end of the former factory building to the other. They hoisted it 6 feet off the ground and secured it with bolts. Click here to read more.

Amy Wynn, current executive director of the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council will soon be joining AMP as the first executive director!
