This week's group of campers created outdoor art inspired by Ugo Rondinone's Seven Magic Mountains and Robert Smithson's Spiral Jetty, among lots of other projects. A gloomy week of weather was brightened up by happy participants and really cool installations!

Our summer program participants have created an incredible outdoor learning and play space on AMP's campus. Next project might need to be an ark (seriously, when will this rain end?!)!

What a week! The sounds of Latin, jazz, drilling, and sawing by participants in our Music @AMP and Outdoor Design & Building programs filled the air, all while being filmed by our Digital Story Work interns. The building and grounds are buzzing with excitement!

The AMP property is all sorts of pretty now, thanks to O&G Industries Inc.'s pea stone donation and Justin Truskauskas' help adding it to the walkways and around the future Education/Visitor Center. Summer here we come!

Three of our staff members—Amy, Ruthie, and Michelle—completed a course in CPR/AED and First Aid so that our tours and programs are always covered by someone who is trained. Offered through Winsted Area Ambulance Association Official Site, our group's training was led by Ryan Weiss, WAAA's vice president, who did a great job of making it thorough and engaging. What an awesome experience!

Lovin' our new windows—and light—thanks to donations from Northwest Community Bank and Webster Bank through Connecticut’s Neighborhood Assistance Act Tax Credit program!
DiGiorgi Roofing & Siding did an amazing job installing them.

Back to work! This time Ellen is cutting out what will be the entry to the collaborative sections of the mural that have been created by people in 17 states across the country (the remaining 33 state projects to happen in the coming years). These pieces will be displayed along the ramp gallery on the second level behind the mural. More on that soon!

Budding gardeners at work during AMP's "Grow Where You're Planted" program with the R Dudley Seymour Elementary School! Students in grades 2–5 planted, composted, and mulched four planter boxes with flowers, herbs, berries, and veggies (all donated by Gresczyk Farms), then designed and painted gorgeous tiles to affix to the outside of the planters.

Huge thanks to Gresczyk Farms for their amazing support of our new Grow Where You're Planted after-school gardening program, in partnership with R. Seymour Elementary School in Granby, Connecticut. Gresczyk Farms donated all of the herbs, berries, veggies, flowers, soil, and compost the students will need to design and plant the large planter boxes on the property. Amazing!

Last week's install included several three-dimensional elements, including this beautiful piece which is part of the section of the mural depicting Maine fisherman Manley Doughty and his crew. It features a gigantic piece of driftwood, fishing nets, lobster traps, lawn ornaments, and a number of once-smelly bait bags that were collected as part of the Maine state project.

Check out our new virtual art program for teens in March: CreativeMinds @AMP!
Teen artists will unwind together with relaxing art projects in this four-week virtual program. From collage and mobiles to simple wire sculptures, participants will try their hand at a variety of different media. It is often said that keeping the hands moving allows the mind to follow suit—sometimes without us even noticing. These projects are specially designed to deeply engage creative minds. In the end, participants will not only have a collection of conceptual art pieces, but also a deeper experience in communicating and sharing their unique identities! Twenty-two years in the making, the multimillion-dollar project is the world’s largest indoor collaborative artwork at five stories high and 120 feet long. The project is a tribute to working people in the United States and encompasses a flourishing educational program for kids and an event venue for live music and galas.
So why is this massive undertaking located in Winsted, Connecticut, population 7,300, in the rural northwest corner of the state?
