From this to that, Bolton's all-school mural is spectacular! Celebrating the town's 300th anniversary (in 2020), the mural has been in the works since 2019 and involved input from a group of student representatives, the town historian, and key contributions from various invested members of the school community. AMP teaching artist Meredith Arcari Luciano and Bolton art teacher Katelyn Paradis masterfully guided more than 500 students in grades PK-8 to create this incredible piece of artistic history!

Our spirits are soaring with the return to our school residencies! First stop on the schedule: Salisbury, CT.

In partnership with SOAR, Salisbury Central School, and Twenty2 of Bantan, Connecticut, AMP’s program in Salisbury is an all-school mural commemorating the 20th anniversary and legacy of SOAR’s after-school enrichment programs. Initiated by Linda Sloane, executive director of SOAR, the project kicked off in winter 2020 with a small group of student representatives planning alongside AMP teaching artist Jessica Russell.

Fast forward to last week, the entire school community worked off of a prompt to create art around the work that they would like to do when they grow up. Their art will be scanned and digitized by Twenty2 and turned into high-end wallpaper that will cover the entire length and width of the hallway outside the art room at Salisbury Central School. We are all so grateful to Twenty2 for the incredibly generous donation of their time and skill! Special thanks to Gayle Christinat who shared her art room, talent, and love for Salisbury students.

"How inspiring it was to see that fabulous mural, the beautifully reclaimed spaces, to meet and mingle with people in person instead of on screen. And hearing Billy! Sublime."

We wholeheartedly agree with this Gala attendee's thoughts on the evening!

Three of our staff members—Amy, Ruthie, and Michelle—completed a course in CPR/AED and First Aid so that our tours and programs are always covered by someone who is trained. Offered through Winsted Area Ambulance Association Official Site, our group's training was led by Ryan Weiss, WAAA's vice president, who did a great job of making it thorough and engaging. What an awesome experience!

Back to work! This time Ellen is cutting out what will be the entry to the collaborative sections of the mural that have been created by people in 17 states across the country (the remaining 33 state projects to happen in the coming years). These pieces will be displayed along the ramp gallery on the second level behind the mural. More on that soon!

Budding gardeners at work during AMP's "Grow Where You're Planted" program with the R Dudley Seymour Elementary School! Students in grades 2–5 planted, composted, and mulched four planter boxes with flowers, herbs, berries, and veggies (all donated by Gresczyk Farms), then designed and painted gorgeous tiles to affix to the outside of the planters.

Huge thanks to Gresczyk Farms for their amazing support of our new Grow Where You're Planted after-school gardening program, in partnership with R. Seymour Elementary School in Granby, Connecticut. Gresczyk Farms donated all of the herbs, berries, veggies, flowers, soil, and compost the students will need to design and plant the large planter boxes on the property. Amazing!
